Painter Heusden

The old town of Heusden, inside its star-shaped ramparts, is a national monument. The houses along the Vismarkt and the Putterstraat have original or historically reconstructed frames, shutters, doors and cornices, and painting them is as much about authenticity as it is about protection. Colours may be regulated, the timber must be able to breathe, and the profiles must stay exactly as they are.

We work here with breathable paint systems suited to historic joinery and with epoxy repair products that are accepted for protected buildings. Where a bottom rail or a sill has decayed, we rebuild it rather than replace the whole element, which keeps the original material in place and satisfies the heritage requirements.

Heritage work is brush work. Glazing bars, mouldings and shutters cannot be sprayed, and each coat needs its proper drying time, so a house in the old town takes longer than a modern one of the same size. We say so in the quote and plan the job in a dry spell, because paint applied to damp historic timber will not hold.

Outside the walls the picture is very different. Vlijmen and Drunen are the residential cores of the municipality, with family homes from the 1960s to today, apartment buildings run by owners associations, and new-build that needs interior finishing. Here we do the everyday work of a painting company: exterior painting of frames and fascias, interior walls and ceilings, and airless spray finishing for a seamless result.

The Bergsche Maas is close, and the whole municipality sits low. Timber stays damp, and wood rot repair is part of many of our jobs here. Early detection makes the difference: a soft corner is a morning of epoxy work, a rotten frame is a replacement.
