Painter Sint-Michielsgestel

The municipality of Sint-Michielsgestel is green, low-lying and shaped by the river Dommel. In the countryside you find converted farmhouses and detached villas with barns, timber gates and deep eaves; in Berlicum and Den Dungen the streets are lined with family homes and terraces from the 1970s onwards. The two types need very different handling, and we are experienced with both.

The river brings one practical issue: a damp microclimate. Morning mist and slow-draining ground keep timber wetter for longer than in the city, and wet timber decays faster. In this area we recommend checking the frames every year and repainting every 5 to 6 years rather than waiting for the paint to fail visibly.

Several of our projects in Berlicum involved historic farmhouse frames: heavy, wide sections of softwood, often with original glazing bars and shutters. Where the timber had gone soft we carried out wood rot repair with epoxy, rebuilt the profile and repainted with a breathable system that lets old timber release moisture. The alternative, replacing frames of that size, would have been far more disruptive and would have cost the house its character.

For the newer homes in the villages the work is more straightforward: sanding, priming and two coats of a premium Sikkens or Sigma system on frames, doors, fascias and dormers, with a 5-year warranty on the result.

If you are buying a house in the municipality, ask us to look at the timber before you sign. A short inspection tells you whether the frames are sound, whether the previous owner kept up the maintenance, and roughly what the first few years will ask of you. It is free, it takes an hour, and it has saved several of our clients an unpleasant surprise in their first winter.
