Painter Maasdriel

The Bommelerwaard is beautiful and exposed. Houses on the dykes take the wind straight off the water, the polder behind them holds moisture, and river mist settles on the timber on many mornings of the year. Frames, shutters, barn doors and cladding that would last seven years in a sheltered town street can need attention after five here.

We choose paint systems for this exposure: moisture-resistant, UV-stable, applied over a thorough preparation, and we pay extra attention to the details that fail first, such as the bottom rails, the sills and the end grain of cladding boards.

A recent project in Hedel shows how much can be done without replacing anything. The house had extensive wood rot in several frames, a number of broken window panes and paintwork that had been left too long. We carried out wood rot repair with epoxy on every affected section, replaced the damaged glazing, and then repainted the entire exterior. The client got back a house that looks new and is protected for years, with one warranty certificate to cover all of it.

We can also install HR++ insulating glass in existing frames while we are there, which is often worthwhile in older dyke houses with single glazing.

Kerkdriel is the largest village and has a growing mix of housing, including a number of converted farmhouses whose owners want the exterior finished to a high standard. Alem, Rossum and Velddriel are smaller and quieter, and we enjoy working there: personal contact, one point of contact, and a painter who keeps to the agreed planning.

Barn conversions deserve a word of their own. The old timber in a converted barn was never meant to be sealed, so we use breathable systems that let it release moisture, and we treat the inside with the same care as the outside: exposed beams, panelling and the large new glazed openings that these conversions usually have.
